Satellite, Wireless & Fibre

In a short space of time, Krypton TV has used new satellite technology to connect customers across Cumbria and beyond to fast internet. Whether in deep Lakeland valleys or small hamlets beyond the reach of ADSL service, on Farms, holiday cottages, small business and home offices. Nowhere is unreachable.

Building networks in rural areas requires several factors to come together. The good news is that everyone can now be reached by high quality broadband even if they cannot currently get broadband via their telephone line (for example they are too far from the exchange or have an unsuitable line), or the current service is just too slow and unreliable.

Already, clusters are starting to form where communities can start to plan wider networks that can link to other networks. As well as working from the inside out, Krypton TV is working from the outside in to bring very high speed wireless and fibre networks closer to isolated communities.

"We are please to say that the satellite performance is very good indeed... many thanks for your help in getting us a really workable broadband service. ~ Warwickshire 2011"

New Rural Broadband Service

Krypton TV Ltd is pleased to announce that it has become a partner in the North West region of the new High Power, Spot Beam, Satellite broadband service from Avanti PLC. using their Hylas 1 satellite.

This new service launched last month uses the very latest satellite and terminal technology to provide a true broadband service targeted at rural areas where legacy ADSL connections have not been able to provide an adequate service . Using high power Ka band satellites with beams that concentrate the power over much smaller areas and the very latest modulation, coding and control technologies gives higher throughput, lower cost and greater reliability all at the same time. The down link uses the same second generation Digital Video Broadcast from Satellite standard (DVB-S2) that is found in the latest HD digital set top boxes. This gives an economy of scale that keep the price of the terminals as low as possible. The return path (also by satellite) uses advanced power control and modulation to match the transmission to the current weather conditions and together with the forward error correction control in the down link gives reliability normally only associated with ground based fixed telecommunications networks.

Krypton TV is excited by the prospects for rural broadband but also in the other advanced features that the satellite terminals (developed by the world leader, HUGHES) can deploy such as multicast and turbo content caching that allow new business models for content delivery to a wide area. While Satellite Latency issues will never be suitable for some applications such as on line gaming, 95% of users expectations for web surfing, emailing and streaming rich content will be more than satisfied. In particular business will see a positive advantage in the fast upload speed (up to 2.5 Mbps) now available which can give significant advantage over ADSL links.

Using the technology Krypton TV has been able to demonstrate the conversion a farm in a notorious NOT SPOT in Cumbria from 33kbps dial up to 8Mbps service within one hour. As well as enabling the use of broadband for DEFRA form filling and on line filing, the system was demonstrated streaming TV services.

A range of affordable packages for consumer and professional from Avanti with generous and flexible data usage tariffs signal a new start for Satellite broadband services. Two levels are provided, consumer with shared bandwidth (contended) and Pro with low contention for business and shared use of terminals.

Whilst the ultimate goal is for all properties to be connected to fibre, the use of satellite broadband is seen as an enabling technology that can ensure that no one is disadvantaged by location in the short to medium term. Krypton TV Ltd. is committed to not only delivering the best possible local TV coverage (in High Definition) but also to spearhead with its partners ( e.g. NextGenUs ) the delivery of quality broadband services. In the longer term Satellite terminals deployed in remote or inaccessible locations will also serve to back up rural fibre and mobile phone deployments - essential where it is not possible to deploy a complete fibre ring with route diversity.

Krypton TV Ltd. based in Cumbria, UK is a leading digital TV and broadband company that supplies High Definition Digital TV and broadband solutions for applications such as Hotels, Universities and communities and is a value added reseller and partner with Grundig Satellite Systems GmBH, Snap TV and UK Fast.
